God Bless The Silly People
One of the stations is about to debut an 80’s music feature and it will be “powered by a 1.21 gigiwatt Flux Capacitor!”
Big Name For The Big Game
One of the tried-and-true™ morning show contests is “Who Do You Know?” which throws it out to the audience to see who can get the “biggest celebrity” to call in to the morning show. It’s a “In Our Judgment” contest, ie: the morning show decides that the Governor is bigger than the evening news anchor on the ABC affiliate. Though, with one of the stations, some listener knew someone who knew someone and the guy who played the Principal on “Saved By The Bell” called. How cool is that?
The 2021 version would be on social media because everyone follows a few celebrities on social media.
So, for whatever Super Bowl prize you have, how about asking for the biggest celebrity to come to your station Facebook page and comment, “Please give Dan the big screen so that he will stop bugging me. Thanks. Tom Hanks.” The idea would be that your listeners would go and hit everyone they follow, hoping that someone will reply for them.
BTW: Tom Hanks would totally do this
Free Press & A Great Cause
Someone asked about “How to do you get press?” and my answer is that nothing is guaranteed but if you keep throwing stuff against the wall, something will stick. And “Topical” and “Visual” are always key.
“Topical” would be a big NFL matchup like Buffalo vs Kansas City and “Visual” would be a grocery store shelf that had all of the KC Barbecue Sauce pulled from it. The “banning the sauce” thing at 97 Rock in Buffalo has now made Fox News. Buffalo grocery store pulls Kansas City BBQ sauce before AFC Championship game | Fox News
The sauce is now in on it:
“When we heard the hilarious news of our sauces being removed from store shelves in Buffalo, albeit temporarily, we saw a great opportunity to serve both communities while encouraging football fans to do the same,” said Peddy Khatami, Director of Sales Planning for KC Masterpiece. “We’re excited that our sauce is a strong symbol of its namesake city during the lead up to the big game, and even more excited to rally fans from both cities to join us in paying it forward.”
In response, KC Masterpiece is taking the high road and tapping into Buffalo fans’ well-documented penchant for doing good and going all-in to support their local communities to help uplift those who may need a bit of extra support this season. While KC Masterpiece may not be on shelves in the Buffalo area for now, the brand will make their presence known, donating a total of $5,000 and 5,000 bottles of KC Masterpiece to local food banks FeedMore WNY in Buffalo, and Harvesters—The Community Food Network in Kansas City, in the hopes that the team’s local superfans will match this good-natured gesture and contribute as well.
Virtual Prize Wheel
My family has been doing Quarantine Film Fests since last March and to eliminate debate, we reach pick five movies, they go in slats on a prize wheel app, we push a button and “it” decides. I sat through a 75 anime POC because of the freaking wheel.
I just saw it done as part of a Zoom’ed charity event. Volunteers got their names on it and throughout the hour-long event it spun and prizes were awarded.
This is one version that I have seen Spin It – The Random Exercise & Activity Generator (connectedpe.com)
Here is another. Number Picker Wheel - Pick Random Number by Spinning
And a third. Wheel Decide
