Green….Means “GO”
Jeff Kapugi was the first to use the act of manually refreshing a site to make a stoplight change from red to green, which was the signal at his station in St. Louis to text and win Jason Aldean tickets.
“Guess How Many Beans Are In The Jar” is a contesting methodology for fairs, elementary school events and even Radio dating back to cave dwelling. Mix in Cincy just brought it back for giving away casino prizes.
You could do it for St. Patrick’s Day with green M&M’s in a glass jar or bowl. Post the pic, and the listener that guesses closest without going over, gets to go somewhere. During COVID, weekend stays at a nearby resort have been homeruns.
Vaccin-eat
The next push is already happening: getting vaccine info “out” quickly and accurately. KRBE in Houston is one of the stations that has local links and resources on their site. Covid-19 Vaccination Resource | 104.1 – KRBE | KRBE-FM
Brent Shelton at Stingray in Edmonton has literally donated liters of blood and not because he’s a nice guy with a caring heart: he likes the free food afterwards.
“Getting On TV” is the Art of knowing where the TV crews are and then playing to them. And these massive driveup events get TV coverage. So get a food client that can provide 1000 pre-packaged food items, reach out to the people hosting these events and offer to:
- Help get their information for this and all other vaccine-related campaigns “out”. And accurately. They are NOT going to turn you down. This is their #1 priority right now.
- Offer to help feed the people as they leave. You want to absolutely be clear that you will NOT interfere or get in the way of their event.
98.9 The Bull in Seattle very early on in COVID helped give away 100,000 pounds of potatoes.
I think it needs to be more of a “treat” kind of thing, and absolutely pre-packaged like ice cream bars. If it’s too big of an item, the prize pigs who have already gotten their shots are going to grab spaces in line to get their bucket of KFC.
Maskin’ Robbins
When we know that a client has set a precedent with something, that’s valuable info. Pizza Hut will buy into promotions that support literacy and reading. Taco Bell has done BIG promotions based around entire markets getting free tacos if a morning talent does something like hit a free throw.
And in Knoxville, Baskin Robbins sponsored a promotion that rewarded kids for being heroes at home and in the community during COVID.
So they are your go-to sponsor for your next “post a photo in your mask” campaign.
