4th Grade Birthday Parties
A couple of years ago one of the OM’s was disappointed that their ginormous artist experience didn’t really “get any traction and there wasn’t the buzz that I’d hoped for.”
I suggested that it was because he had people enter their emails for a million dollar prize. And it was literally a million bucks worth of fun.
Can you imagine Bob Barker getting everyone down to winners row and then having them like Price Is Right on Facebook to qualify for the showcase? There are some prizes that will come along that you can have some fun and give the audience a visual. I once did a blog on retro birthday parties and how parents were tasked with keeping 30 little kids with the attention spans of hamsters engaged for two hours. Career Day
In 6th grade you wanted John Donnelly in your class because for career day, his dad would come and talk about his job as a 747 pilot for Northwest Airlines. They’d just started nonstop service from Minny to Tokyo and everyone in the class got…wait for it…branded chopsticks from First Class. John was a baller.
We try really hard to be funny. Sometimes the listeners can be funnier than us. So why not do a career day once a month and let people from specific fields or industries share their stories. I drove a cab in college. I’m set for life.
One of my favorite morning talent is now a flight attendant. She has amazing stories. Every business has their own weird stories. For Halloween? Seriously? Get a nurse from a hospital on. They see…stuff. So, pick a field or genre and once a month, let people share their stories. Hotel housekeepers? Are a riot.
Show & Tell
It’s just so simple. Go on social media and show us something unusual that you have and tell us the story behind it. I’d start with a ¾ inch piece of wood that was stuck in my butt after getting lodged there during Mark S. Allen’s billboard “sit” in 1998 and finally worked it’s way to the surface after almost 20 years. People have stuff. Have them show it off.
Ticktionary
In the beginning there was charades. And it was good. The next step is Ticktionary (for when we have tickets again.) Rob whispers something to Joss and she has ten seconds to draw it. They post and the first person who comments “Melissa Joan Hart on a surf board!” wins.
Musical Chairs
v This would again fall under “When we’re allowed to breath on each other again.” Wild in Tampa did it for a trip to the Grammys and the CHR here did it for a trip to the Super Bowl.
KDUK did it for 1D tickets. KDUK Presents STEAL YOUR SEATS TO MEET ONE DIRECTION - YouTube
Toss One Off For Tickets
And of course who didn’t love the Egg Toss.
Which has been done by quite a few stations with water balloons for tickets to artists like Bruno Mars and Maroon 5.
Maturity is highly over-rated.
