File For April Fools
JB and Sandy once did a bit where they asked listeners to “name that tune.” They played a clip from “Sailing” by Christopher Cross and then started taking callers. And they were all staged and wrong. “Stairway To Heaven?”. “No Debby, let’s play that song again…” and then the next caller would guess “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison. And on and on as the listeners seethed and flooded the phones.
The key…is to not offer or refer to a prize. Because that would be Contest Fraud and that’s a bad bad thing.
The Best Group Contest Name Of 2021 (So Far)
Ben Davis at 99.7 DJX in Louisville knocks it out of the park again with….The Vigilante. A semi-super hero determined to take away the power of big corporations. The Vigilante- Your Chance To Win $1000 A Day | 99.7 DJX (wdjx.com)
Great campaigns have great spokespeople. Progressive without “Flo” would just be another insurance company.
Here are some other themes from around Alpha in their contest that launched yesterday.
And KLUC returns with The Big Fat Bribe. The best description of cash contesting ever.
Memorial Murals
In the starter-pack of ideas for stations that are going to do COVID Remembrance Day on May 25th is a memorial wall of names or images for people who have been lost. One cluster has already reached out to a local artist group to get their participation.
This mural that honors the medical community in Nashville, done by The River, is brilliant. Feeding Our Healthcare Heroes | 1075 The River (iheart.com)
That could be your take on May 25th: remembering the heroes who have been with us every step of the way during COVID.
Cushioned For Your Comfort
This is probably going to surprise no one but like a lot of 18-20 y/o males at the time, I went through a “Rocky Horror” phase. I’m not proud. It is what it is.
The best place that I ever saw it was at a theater on Cannery Row in Monterey. It was this big space with tons of speakers and hundreds of throw cushions and beanbag chairs. No traditional seats.
With the eventuality that Performance Rooms will return, some time, what about cushions instead of chairs?
That is what KLUC in Las Vegas does with monogrammed cushions. Which is pretty cool.
