Why My Mom Is The Bomb
You’re now in the two week window for Mothers Day and most stations will have their promotions up this week.
One of the CHR’s is doing “Why My Mom Is The Bomb” but with an audience from the early teens into the 20’s, in trying to get entries they are appealing to something this audience READILY knows. From the promo:
What kid hasn't gone through the horrifying experience of....(deep echoing voice)...THE EMBARRASSING PARENT!
Guy: "Bobby, did you bring your medicine with you today? You know how cafeteria food makes you gassy." (kids laughing)
Woman: "Honey, HONEY, give me a kiss before you get out of the car. You're my special little general!" (kids laughing)
But we take a break from all that and honor the moms who, in between sometimes accidentally embarrassing, are the FREAKING BOMB!
The Big Switch
One of the Clifton things that he employed when launching stations like WiLD in SFO and refreshing ‘BLS in NY was “The Big Switch”. Basically it was the creation of this image that EVERYONE who had the strength and energy to push a button, was bailing on the competitor and crossing the street.
All of the imaging was people talking about how they’d made the switch. To win, that was the phrase. And with CHR’s and Rhythms, it created the impression that the other station was tired, stale and over.
98.9 The Bull in Seattle is doing The Switch and used all the research that Facebook has done for us, to make the video.
Vax Champs
The next stage with COVID is pushing vax’s and taking time to remember the people who have got us to this point, and, in some markets, working on tributes to those we lost.
Everyone who has gotten jabbed has seemed to marvel at the efficiency of the process. And they’re right. I went in for #1 on Friday and it was 8 minutes from walking in the door to getting stuck. Really impressive.
And they have a Wall with spotlights on their team, which is pretty cool. Because they WERE great.
If you are looking for your next permutation for Home Town Heroes, this is it.
The Margarita Moment
Cinco de Mayo is next Wednesday. St. Patrick’s Day was a Wednesday and it didn’t seem to stop people from drinking.
A lot of the “virtual” stuff we’ve done over the past year has been one-directional. People can sit and watch it. Whee.
John and Tammy and KSON in San Diego were the first to do Zoom’ed Happy Hours and Pebbles & Boomer at Jammin’ in New London were right behind them. Little cocktail hours where they could sit and engage with the listeners. Talk. Share. Commiserate.
So what if you did that for May 5th with Margaritas? On Monday and Tuesday have a client that has a bar, do some classes like this. How to make The perfect Margarita cocktail - Masterclass - YouTube
And then, listeners with their own homemade concoctions have a little distanced quality time with the morning show.
