Another Sign Of Freaking Normalcy!!
Insured football kicks are back! And there was joy across the land.
I like the idea of getting it into the truck because then, obviously, you can bring an auto client in on it. It reminds of a 7th inning stretch contest that the Twins would do. There was basically a wall in right field and a fan could drop three tennis balls from the upper deck and hope that they would bounce into the bed of a truck, to win the truck or other prizes.
This company will insure pretty much anything “football” including the $10,000 Kick Off Run Back.
The run back is very simple. You get a winner the week before a home game and they get tickets to the game. If you home team runs the first kickoff of the game back for a touchdown, the listener gets $10,000. It was done through a chain of convenience store with the Packers and Midwest Communications in Green Bay, and then with a fastfood chain with BSU and Peak Broadcasting in Boise.
Win A Cow
One of the stations has a $500 gift card to a butcher to award.
Okay. That’s a GREAT freaking prize. But as I pointed out, “Costco has gift cards. This is a s-ton of meat.” So they’re doing “Win A Cow” which will hopefully get a few animal rights complaints before they pull the trigger and reveal what the real prize is.
The graphic will be a form of this but with a very sweet looking cow.
And a frig full of food, in ANY economy, is a fantastic prize. Like this promotion at KS95 in the Twin Cities.
Your Next Potential Podcast
Several years ago a few of the stations tested “Murder Monday” as a feature and it was huge. Simply huge. It totally engaged people. They would discuss a famous or infamous murder and people just got sucked in.
It’s a podcast at Radio Now in Indy. Murder Monday | RadioNOW 100.9 (radionowindy.com)
I went and had drinks with a bunch of friends from high school on Monday and one of them was the Chief of Police in a Twin Cities suburb. Someone asked him about this pretty prestigious award that Amy Klobuchar had given him for solving a cold case arson triple homicide. He started with the crime and walked through how they cracked it, including using the NBC affiliate to kind of mentally ambush the suspect.
Everyone was just laser focused on the story.
Similar to Murder Monday, is “Southern Disgrace” which some of the women at iHeart and Birmingham do when they profile famous crimes from their part of the country. Southern Disgrace on Apple Podcasts
