Slogan Shirts
- Station shirts are still the greatest swag that you can reward someone for listening.
- But it’s getting harder to get people to wear (no less, buy) our Beefy Tee fun run shirts. People just aren’t as into being walking billboards for a brand.
Michael Martin may have been the first to dip his toe in that pool. He couldn’t get college students to wear his shirts so he stuck a message on the back that said something like, “Nope, the other side, idiot.” And people wore them.
About fifteen years ago stations in the Twin Cities started adjusting the designs of the shirts that they sell at the Minnesota State Fair. And they sell insane quantities equal to the GDP of some developing nations.
So they started sticking slogans on the shirts. There was still a logo but you were buying a funny, topical slogan on a good quality shirt.
Terry O’Donnell at iHeart in Albany did shirts that said “Hannah Montana Destroyed My Family” and “Dance Contest Runner-Up” and people loved them and wore them.
And it actually helped some brand explode after the cast of iCarly started wearing them.
Back Packs
In terms of bundling prizes, we’re heading into a season where this often occurs in a receptacle called a backpack. So doing “back to back for a backpack” (two designated songs played in order as the cue) would be a nice alternative to “click and enter your email”.
Night Show Features
With school coming back in a few weeks, the best time to re-engage with the kids on the night show is IMMEDIATELY before they fall into patterns and develop school social lives.
Marconi was perhaps the first to discover that having cheerleaders on the air will get a big portion of the school to tune in.
What if you did School Duel. Two FB Lived cheers from two different schools squad. The winner based on social media votes gets pizza from a client.
Click…Bait
My favorite ‘bait was on CNN.com the other day and it was something about “Goldie Hawn doesn’t want you to know her secret” and it was a photo of Sharon Stone.
In a lot of markets people fish. So, minnows, leaches, worms and grubs are a nice lifestyle summer prize.
What if you image it as the station site/social media has the best clickbait of any station in town. And have an image of Sharon Stone saying “Nightcrawlers almost destroyed my career.” Click and register to win some bait
