A 9/11 Interview
One of the things we’re going to discuss on today’s webinar is using your social media on that date to allow people to share “where they were”. Because it was a Universal Moment that we can all immediately recall. Kind of like John Lennon, JFK for my brothers or for my dad, the attack on Pearl Harbor.
And some people were in the air. September 11: FAA Closure of US Airspace - YouTube
Here is an email address to a man who was working as a flight attendant on that morning, started in Flint, went to Jacksonville and were preparing to start boarding when a flight attendant who was boarding for a ride home as a passenger said that the Twin Towers had been hit by private planes. When he went up to the counter to get the final paperwork, someone said it was an American 767, so he went back to ask the pilots what they’d heard, said “It was an American 76 and they looked at me like I had a pickle growing out of my head.” Flight attendant for 25 years and a leader in their union and used to doing radio and TV interviews. travatl@comcast.net
Outlet Malls
They’ve popped up a couple of times in the past week.
First, this was the greatest outlet mall promotion in recent history. They did it for back to school but could be stuck in wherever they have a hole. To get a ball, you had to register at the mall but there were also some awarded on the air. Hot 100.5 Helihotcopter! $1000 Back to School Ball Drop - YouTube
And if you can’t get a helicopter drop the balls from a crane.
If the mall doesn’t have a food court, a food truck event will always always draw.
Pricing games as a morning show feature always work but it should be mixed up: some mornings it’s stuff from their retailers, and then maybe it a something from a convenience store, then maybe a meal at a restaurant. Their giftcards are the prize but it’s just an excuse to push their message about low prices.
The Dream Dorm was more or less the ultimate pricing game where you attempted to ID the value of everything in a staged dorm room, built in the center of a mall. The entry blank had every item listed and what store it had come from. So you just had to stroll around, go in, the item was prominently displayed and you jotted down the price. Of the 10,000 entries, 99% were right to the penny. And you won everything in the room.
Hands For Heroes
One of the things that Radio has done really well since the onslaught of COVID has been to honor Hometown Heroes. So what if you took this early 00’s idea from Citadel in Colorado Springs, and had listeners join you at a client’s location on a Saturday. They put on a latex glove, dip their hand in paint and apply to the pallet that will become the board.
