Masks
They’re back.
And people are pretty burned out on the idea of having to wear them again.
As responsible broadcasters with these silly “licenses”, we are kind of obligated to be concerned about the health and welfare of our listeners.
The best Head Street Teamer was at Citadel in Saginaw. She was the head RA at the University of Michigan and part of her job there was to know when the other RA’s were burned out, and then throw a fun day to boost their spirits.
Radio is kind of an RA. We need to make the message fun.
Incentives seem to have worked with vaccines. The Bull is Seattle did it with the Cash Mask. Post your photo and maybe win $100. Could also be done as #masktag
How have radio stations solved the “Our listeners won’t wear station shirts!” challenge? By getting creative with our shirts. Slogan shirts. BRIGHT shirts. Not XL beefy tee Fun Run shirts. (Thank you to Jay Kruz for that line) We can do that with doing a contest for the most creative mask.
Or do a tutorial video on how make something fun. Like a silicon mask.
KJ-103 in OKC did perhaps the best mask promotion of last year when they did a school spirit contest: the school that won got a free, station AND school branded mask for every student. And a client paid for it.

And Michael Scott was right: the best thing you can give someone is a gift basket. So fill up some baskets with clients swag and products and services and do “Mask It For A Basket.”
