“Things That Will Get Your Attention” For $500, Alex
Newcap in one of their markets was in a situation where the competition was dropping $5000 a week on contesting, and they had $2500. So I used my spidey math skillz and figured out that $2500 would buy gas for a year. So…they did “Gas For A Year” once a week. HUGE.
If you got on the air and offered Groceries For A Year, it would REALLY stand out. Which is kind of what the goal of promotions is; to get noticed. Win Groceries For A Year Sweepstakes (wjrz.com)

KS95 in the Twin Cities has a very cool pet adoption event tomorrow and you’d need to live here to understand that the venue is exceptionally cool.
Cumulus in Fayetteville Animal Protection Society for a major pet event. I love the sponsorship levels: Headliner, Rockstar, Roadie and Groupie.
Roof Sits & Billboard Broadcasts
Every year in August, Mark S. Allen at KSFM would do a 7-10 ‘thon for MDA. One year he lived on a barge that was dressed up to look like an island. The Navy SEALS came in, scuba jumped into the water, climbed up, winched him up, flew to the Doubletree and looking like Tom Hanks in “Castaway”, he ran in with some garbage bags fill with cash. The next year they hung him in a shark cage for a week.
The following year they’d let the Promotion Director go and with 72 hours to go, I was able to get him on a billboard across the street. He raised $200,000 for MDA. About half of that came through business and school challenges and the rest was in crumpled bills.
If he’s sat at a table in the Doubletree ballroom and broadcast for a week, they would have gotten 1/3 of that. Ditto with Chet living on the scaffold
Q-107 Country in Port Huron just did a five day roof sit to call attention and raise funds for the effort to end child abuse in that community. And LOOK at the list of sponsors. Roofsit 2021 | WSAQ
And Gotts with Rat-FM in New Jersey is going up on a board to raise $109,000 for children with cancer. 95.9 WRAT’s Billboard Radiothon
