Squid Game
“Radio is always 90 days behind the majority of our audience in terms of discovering things, and then we glom all over it like we were the ones who created it.” Mark Adams, re: Facebook in 2010.
“Radio has enough problems without telling people to watch TV but if everyone is talking about something, it kind of behooves us to acknowledge it without doing 40 minute recaps that are readily available from other sources.” Bill Tanner, early “American Idol” era.
“Acknowledge” is the key.
You could take some squids and swap them out for Courtney, etc. on the couch and use the “Friends” font and insert “Squids”. Boom. An image is one way to “acknowledge”.
Refer to the new person in charge of the prize closet as “The Front Man” and frankly he scares the crap out of us.
Do “Squad Game”, hide a squid on the site. Find it and win a calamari dinner. (Food from restaurants is generally one of the easiest ‘make a call’ prizes we know.)
Now, this obviously sucks if you’re the Night Show, but cobble out an hour in the evening and for people who are new to it, have them and a talent watch an episode and then take 10-15 minutes on Zoom or Facebook or IG to rehash it. CPR Director of Computer Stuff, Bel Boschi, and I are doing that most nights with another Netflix show.
Mix in Cincinnati has been involved with a fish toss event.
People DO get a little skeegy when you are perceived as wasting food. So if you didn’t do it with actual squid from a fish market, get one of these things for $11, slather it in Vaseline, and have workplaces compete for speed + fewest drops.
Diaper Drives
Because of supply chain disruptions there is a diaper shortage in the US. 1 in 3 families are having trouble getting diapers.
Hubbard in the Twin Cities has done a fantastic job during a couple of natural disasters in other parts of the country with collecting hundreds of thousands of diapers and then driving them to the zones.
I don’t think you want people going and emptying the shelves even more than they already are. If you could source a supply elsewhere that is not maybe affected by the shortage and do a Reverse Hubbard and go and bring back a load, that would be large. Similar with what people did with Patti Labelle sweet potato pies when they couldn’t be found.
Or, as people whose kids have graduated to the potty, to donate their extras.
Treat Tracker
It is traditional for there to be maps and resources of the best holiday lights in markets.
Nextdoor is soliciting for people share where they will have treats and/or decorations. Facebook
This could be as simple as a solicit on social media for people to boast about what they’re offering this year.
And A Reminder….
…that on the 21st at 3 pm CST, I’ll be hosting a webinar to look at rev holes in the 1st Q and things you could help fill them with. GoToWebinar
