4th Q
The Marketing Director at Mall Of America came from KDWB (via a stint as a roadie for Stone Temple Pilots and John Legend) and gained a whole new perspective on how horrible Radio can be in terms of planning “out”.
“We were working on the Holidays in April and then a station would come to us in October with an idea for Christmas and that boat had sailed..”
Patti Marshall with Hubbard in Cincinnati is first on “4th quarter sales” requests. It wouldn’t be dumb to do a Zoom in the next week and look at all of the sellable opps for that period.
Concert Pics
I was looking at a station in upstate New York over the weekend and their big music fest. One of the things that they did well was to go out and cover the tail gating on social media. Because that was where the fun started. Very similar to what Jimmy Buffett’s crew does: they have a golf cart with a built-in blender and they hit all of the pre-parties in all o the parking lots before the show.
B Dub with The Bull in Seattle has a great theory: 80% listeners/artists and 20% staff.
Amber and Tanner from Froggy 92.9 in Santa Rosa squeezed a couple of listeners into this Instagram post.
App Man
Great campaigns have great characters. Like “Gas Man” at The Bull in Seattle. Where now…they have App Man. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rb8l401wzc3trv7/KNUC_AppMan_Episode1.wav?dl=0
And possibly the best promo video of 2022 (so far) goes to KS95 in the Twin Cities. App Man Returns – KS95 94.5
Retro Hair
Hair, fashion…even first cars (WROR in Boston) eventually become nostalgic and funny.
Mandy & Jimmy at Hits 106.3 in Lexington have stools on the stage (sounded better in my head) for New Kids. I worked a mess of New Kids show. Your comedic element for one of these kinds of tickets is the hair. So they’re soliciting pics from the listeners of what they were rocking circa 1989 through 1992.
