One of my favorite Summer weekend contests is “The Boss Is Out Town Weekend.” Basically every hour the talent goes, breaks into the bosses office and steals stuff from their desk. It’s good to mix in some just odd stuff like an Archie comic or some White Out.

The Takeover Summer

Back when MTV did their Summer Beach House, XtremeRadio in Honolulu replicated it and got access to a place on the North Shore of the island. They did a shift a day from there and invited 100 winners with guests. Every day. (And they sold the bejezus out of it.)

The sound? Was amazing. You could listen to any of other three CHR’s and they could have been on the moon. “Hawaii” is not a nice hermetically sealed studio. It’s the beach and the wind and the splashing and the laughing and the thwap of a volleyball. They NAILED it.

Chip Morgan with ROI is about to take one of his stations out of the studio for the rest of the Summer. Hopefully every shift will be live, somewhere in the market.

Global One Media in Elko starts their Takeover Summer on the 1st. They’re going out and taking over rodeos and parades and casino shows and picnics and wine walks and marinas and meeting people sounding like “Elko in the Summer.” It will be huge and profitable.
