Sonic = Seismic
You could usually count on one BIG rebranding a year. One of those nukes that just shakes up a market. I think the last thing that even came close might have been in 2016.
And then Rogers launched Sonic in Vancouver with a stunt that literally went global. And for zero cost. You would think that we would realize that being in the witness protection program is not a way to launch a station but as someone commented, “Everyone loved the Sonic thing and next week someone will launch with a press release.”
I love launching stations. It’s literally my favorite part of the job so loop me in if you plan to flip something and let’s have fun.
This was fun. The History of Radio K on Campus — The Wake (wakemag.org)
Go Nuts
One of the stations has a “client need” that would have something for social media and then maybe an incentive to stop by their location.
Since we were in Kindergarten, “guess how many pennies are in the jar” (or beans or marbles) has been a simple contest methodology. For money at a casino, Mix in Cincinnati has done it with nuts.
So one way to meet the “needs” of the client would be to do it on Facebook. Post your photo and people can take ONE guess. Closest without going over wins. For an advantage go to the client where the actual jar or container is, with a little placard that states the range, ie: 1500 to 2250.
Let’s Make A Glove Compartment Deal
Monty Hall did all of our research for us. And the “pick a winner/contestant based on the crap they brought in a bag” worked.
Kennedy at Mix in Boston weaponized that as “Let’s Make A Glove Compartment Deal”: At remotes she’d throw out an item like “A pen from a hotel” and people would rush to their cars and look in the glove compartment and under the seats. The first to retrieve and bring one back, one. Ticket? I have three crammed under the seat.” Come by and get your free food.
School Brackets
Now would be the time to get one sold. I like that they’re pumping the money back to the winning school. The best variation of Pennie From Heaven was the schools gettig their collected pennies back, whether they won the concert or not. Because every school has a different need whether it’s band uniforms or new computers or in one case at PXY, a new roof.
