Bundling Your Contests
Outside of the pull-down “Contests” tab, there are other ways to congregate your promotions. Power 96 did “House Of Greed”. Click on it and there they were. One of the Country stations did “The Prize Barn” up at the top with “DJ’s” and “Concerts”. Froggy in Riverside calls it “The Prize Pad.”
Tablet Tag
We’ve played “tag” with tickets, gas, cash and iPads. MJ at Q-105 in Tampa is giving away tablets, and it’s simple: know the name of the previous winner, and you get one. And the next time they play, the caller needs to know your name. MJ's Tablet Tag: Listen To Win A FREE Tablet On Q105 (myq105.com)
Party Out Of Bounds
Like 1000 other stations, KINK in Portland has a Saturday music feature. But because they’re KINK and unlike any station I’ve ever heard, they call it Party Out Of Bounds and you can hear a REALLY wide selection of 80’s artists like The Alarm and The Smiths. Great name. Every Friday Night, Starting at 8! - 101.9 KINK
Cone Zone
They did this KJ-103 in OKC where they were at up to 3 different McDonalds every afternoon for Back To School Week. The first 103 students at each place that showed up got a cone.
Spree For Me
Pay Your Bills reminds me a little of “Second Chance Prom” which was an amazing event that eventually got diluted down to be a club night with drink specials. Bills was this tremendous post-holidays contest that just became an umbrella for cash contesting that 96% of listeners ignore. With that said, there have been stations that have really had fun with it.
When I was at a station a few weeks ago one of the PD’s commented that “bills” has kind of a bad connotation and why not, instead of focusing on the negative, zero in on it being about paying for “me time”. Stuff that you want to do like get a season pass to a ski area or take your spouse to a cabin for a weekend. And then use lots and lots of listeners talking about what they want to blow it on.
