One of my friends did something ridiculously irresponsible a few weeks back and she got a DUI. It’s her first and hopefully her last. And maybe Arizona has harsher rules for first offenses but she’s looking at 30 days and THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS in fees and fines and lawyer bills.
Historically and with the younger audience, they try to scare the kids into compliance with dramatic scene recreation in the parking lot.
The one message that always seems to work is $$$ and how something will effect your finances.
One of the DJ’s at Kiss in Boise did this as a pre-prom message to kids. He worked with local law enforcement and arranged to get himself arrested and show what happens when you eff up.
The next level would be to add on to what he did with “And here’s how it’s going to hurt your wallet…” and with a calculator start adding up all the consequences. “Can’t drive to/from work for a month….click click click…that’s $600 in Uber fees.” Insurance triples? Lawyer fees? This helps break it down. How Much Does a First Offense DUI Cost? | DuiDrivingLaws.org
The national average is $6500. That’s a lot.
And Radio has changed a lot but we I think still care enough about the audience that we would want to push messaging like this.
Cover The Cruiser
The local cops out where I live do this every year for Special Olympics. It’s a great charity but this could be done for any charitable need.
Buy a little icon and stick it on a cop car.
When it’s completely covered, all the money goes to the charity.
Very simple and could be done as “Cover The Sleigh” for Christmas.
