December Jewelry
No less than four stations last week had jewelry clients that wanted something for December.
A Stingray station in the Maritimes did “Desperate Ice Wives.” Women in wedding or bridesmaid dresses met at a jeweler for coffee and breakfast and at 10 am were given a list of items to capture on their phones. Ten things like, “Someone standing in line texting at Tim Hortons” and “A selfie with a police officer.” The first woman back with all ten items on “film” and judged that all ten met the criteria, won a diamond. They also made sure that several of the items required going into their advertisers. And…I have rules.
107.9 The Beat in Lexington did it as “Iced Out” and played a jingle that was the cue to call and get registered. They’d open the phones for 15 minutes and everyone who got through was registered for the drawing.

Lawn Signs
They are EVERYWHERE. If you can incentivize people to put YOUR signs in their yard, it would be a wonderful thing. Paul Kaye with Rogers shares this bit from a station in Ottawa. Stream Ottawa B&B Billboard Reveal Generic Promo by cprpromo | Listen online for free on SoundCloud
Kiss The Bird
We all know the thrill of getting TV coverage but are generally pretty awful at pulling it off. Here is a reminder --- things that usually will get covered.
- Sticking a DJ on a crane or on a billboard for charity
- Wacky or unusual weddings
- Gas station takeovers
- Kissing marathons, like Kiss A KIA or…
Kiss The Bird was done by Island 106 in Panama City. Ten listeners at tables in a mall…kissing frozen turkeys. The one that lasted the longest (and they added some challenges) won $1000 from the client and EVERYONE went home with their bird.
