Who In The Rock?!
As done by KOZE-FM. Very simple: the talent throws out some info like "Changed the spelling of his name and once swept the floors at a recording studio." The first person to call in and say "Bon Jovi", wins. Who In The Rock | KOZE
A Candy Bracket
COVID taught us that brackets work outside of March, as evidenced by Beasley's amazing run of sponsored brackets.
This one at Y94 doesn't have a prize or a sponsor: its just people voting their opinion on candy, and "strong opinions about food" is about 30% of social media content. Fargo's Favorite Halloween Candy | Y94
A Sugar Rush
One of the stations has had a parking lot event for Halloween fall in their lap. They can't use Trunk Or Treat so their going with "Sugar Rush" for the event.
It's entirely possible that you're going to have a remote or event the weekend of the 29th and 30th. OBVIOUSLY Halloween is your hook. Inviting listeners to come in costume and simply just post their photos, will get people to come. Some candy and your photo on a station page will get bodies on the lot.
Morning Show Psychics
One of the consultants forbade his clients from using psychics. I'd never known that a consultant could you from doing something.
But…I also get it. A bad psychic is painful. As are bad songs. Bad remotes. Bad features. But for the stations like WiLD in Tampa who have had a good one, it's often THE most "phone engaging guest" of the week.
And we're in Prime Psychic Season. So, if you can get one for Friday the 28th, great. What you need is really good phone screening because if you listen to enough Radio psychics, it's the CALLERS that are the problem because 90% of the calls you get will be a variation of these two questions:
- Am I going to get a new job?
- "I've been dating this married man for 27 years and he keeps saying that as soon as his last child gets out of college that he'll leave his wife for me. But then I just saw that he's taking her to Paris for their anniversary. Will he ever leave her?" You don't need to be a psychic to no that the answer is "Of course not you hoor."
So screen them and look for the good stuff. Rob & Joss with KyXy in San Diego will actually prerecord and edit their calls in the days leading up to it.
The best call I heard in the Twin Cities was from a woman who'd had a baby in highschool that sadly passed shortly after. She moved out west, started her life over but when she comes to visit her family and goes to the cemetery, someone has left flowers at the grave. Did he know who it was? He paused, thought, and asked, "Do you have a relative, not a sibling, maybe a cousin…named Cindy?" And the lady lost it. She called later in the show and said she'd called her aunt Cindy and it was her.
Again, if you can get a good one and screen the calls, it will be gold.
