I wrote a thing about how great contest methodologies can be traced back to 4th grade birthday parties. CPR Promotions Elementary, My Dear Wasmoen - CPR Promotions (cpr-promotions.com)

But they also can be traced back to carnival midways. One of the Alpha stations was doing a “Guess The Weight” contest on social media last month. It was only missing, “Hey Slick, step right up.”

And summer camp. Lots of great games there, like balloon toss.

And of course Musical Chairs. I don’t think there’s been an NBA team that hasn’t done that as an intermission game.

It’s been done for a trip to the Super Bowl.

It’s been done for One Direction tickets.

And Hot 99.1 did it on Saturday to award a house full of furniture, which is kind of a good prize. They got their contestants by doing pricing games on Facebook.

And then wrapped it with the event.

File it for when you have something that you want to award with some panache. And I have rules for it.

Selfie With An Elfie

One of the stations has ticket stops sold on Black Friday and the non-color-themed following two days. Just sitting at a car dealer and inviting people to try and stop and win tickets is kinda “bleh” but especially so on a holiday weekend. So….dress a talent or promo person as an elf, stop in for a second, take your photo with them and share and you might get picked for tickets from that “stop”.
