‘Tis The Season
This is one of the worst years I’ve ever seen for potholes where I live. So the always topical and relevant KS95 has turned it into a contest.
Beasley in Las Vegas actually turned it into a very substantial campaign with an auto repair client, and helped get listeners streets bumped to the top of the “fill and repair” list.
Y94 in Fargo (with a slew of sponsors) is honoring snow plow drivers. The summer version of this? Community pool/beach lifeguards.
Instaprom
I heard a prom event on a Twin Cities station yesterday and with promos looming just 30+ days away, it should be on your radar.
If you’re a parent and your kid goes to prom, what do you? You post their photo to social media. Cool. Post it with us too and maybe win an adult evening out.
Egg Shearhan
One of the Alpha PD’s was wrestling with “I’ve got some Ed tickets and should I have people decorate eggs as Ed, or hide an egg in the market and have people find it for tickets?”
Well…that’s what KJ103 in OKC is doing with Taylor tickets this week and it has blowed up…..
Speaking Of Taylor
If you’re within 300 miles of a Taylor show, you should definitely try to get some tickets and then think of what you can do to soak every last drop of juice out of them.
I think “Meet Me At Midnight” has been the biggest Radio promotion so far with her. Done by The River in Nashville. And obviously, since Taylor isn’t from your market, you’d find some other cool places to hide them:
Honestly it’s just a scavenger hunt with a local twist. We printed up 13 sidewalk decals with a clock, station logo, and hashtag on them. Cost us about 50 bucks. Then we picked 13 places that meant something to Taylor. Her high school, businesses she used to frequent in town, places that were in her videos, places she’s performed, etc. We started placing the decals outside those locations a few days before announcing the promo to warm it up. Then we told people they had to go to each location, snap a pic or video, and stitch them together in a Reel or TikTok, tagging us of course. Gave them a week to hit all the locations for a chance to win 4 tickets before the public onsale. Hundreds of entries, several million impressions on social, something like 900k video views. Just went bananas.
Lots of ways to do it, but the more Taylor-specific you can make it, the farther it will go. Her fans will do crazy shit just to be a part of that community, which is what we weren’t really expecting with MATM. What I’ve told my staff in both markets is, whatever rules you think apply to radio contests in 2023 don’t f***ing matter with Taylor. Whatever you can dream up, no matter how crazy you think it is, people will do for these tickets. It’s literal gold.
