Trips

Yesterday’s eblast with the KZIA Gaga contest sparked a bunch of emails from stations that have trips coming up and wanted to do something “fun”.

First, with summer coming up, you should always kind of have a mental map in your head of where your listeners will drive to for “stuff”. Concerts. Camping. Weekends. Skiing. Whatever. And then everything inside that circle is in play. Alpha in Lubbock just lumped it under “road trips”.

Las Vegas? A huge place for sending winners. A lot of times the concert is secondary. It’s Vegas. The best Las Vegas trip contest was done by Kiss 95.1 in Las Vegas: they had listeners count cards. Five times a day they dealt a card on the air. And following the last card in the 5 o’clock hour on Friday, the first person to call with the total value of the hand, won the trip.

The above-mentioned WQYK in has done Double Plays and Triple Plays for things like Playstations. A Trip L Play would be three L artists or titles in a row as the cue to win. Usually the first two are Powers that happen frequently and the last is something random. The phones always blow up the moment the second songs starts up. Three Lizzo’s in a row would work too for some stations.
