Actual Listener Rewards
Most at-work marketing ceased to evolve in about 1989 with the At-Work Network. Going out, catching people listening and rewarding on the spot has always been a great bit. Being done at Soft Rock WBMW in New London. http://wbmw.com/includes/forms2/src/?form_id=18 There's actual, shudder, show biz to it.
STFU
WTF is having a good run as a theme at Q-104 in Cleveland and as a weekend contest at a score of stations. Was noodling on a Taylor Swift contest last night and stumbled across another acronym...which could be used if you have NFL tickets: See The Football Unobstructed.
Sales Stuff
- One of the stations has, as God is my witness, a client that sells garage doors and needed a promotion. You could take what we came up with, "Going Door To Door For The Holidays" and do it with any client. Sponsor a highschool or church choir to go out caroling all season, representing the station and the client.
- There was a jeweler request yesterday that got me thinking about giving away gold. Wild in Tampa did "Deck The Walls" a couple of years back and gave away all the gold and platinum records/CD's that were covering the walls. We take this stuff for granted; for a listener? Huge prize. And sponsorable through a jeweler.
Missing 1
The Giant in Sydney, NS is doing the Missing 1. And, as it always does, it's blowing up. To the point that the competition it trying to muddy the waters and mute it. Not working. From the GM:
The 1 has truly taken over Cape Breton. I'm not sure if it became real for listeners when the police chief made his appeal to help us find the 1 but at some point these past few days people became engaged like they did last fall for the fugitive. The Missing C that our competitor is doing has no traction and no buzz. They even said on their website they had the one and were going to give it away at 7:40 Monday in an effort to get some attention. We countered with the abductor doing a bonus visit at 7:40 Monday saying the 1 was still out there. It's like freakin' showbiz! At 7:40 they announced the one you've been waiting for....a U2 flyaway. People responded with LAME! LAME! LAME!
Face book has grown by over 400 members and listeners are trading clues and hunting in packs for the 1. My only fear is someone finding it prematurely. Its not safe to make sure its where it's supposed to be because this place is small enough that everyone knows who you are and where you live and I don't want to be seen anywhere near it. I think it will hit fever pitch next Monday if it isn't found before then.
