Spring Break
One of the stations has a mall that wants to do something that caters to the moms of school kids who are off for a week but are too young to be driving and finding ways to keep themselves occupied. What if you did "Mothers Little Helper" and every day did something different. A Guitar Hero competition. A movie in the centercourt. Story time. A treasure hunt. Just lots of summercamp-ish activities and games to keep them occupied for a week.
I Like My Money Dirty
From the lovely and talented and not-all-that-bright (she quit Australia to return to American Radio) Tracy Austin:
Did I tell you about the 'dirty cash' promo we did? Off of a story out of Japan about someone finding money in a bathroom, we circulated varying amounts of bills hidden inside zip lock bags and put them in bathrooms, dropped them at stores, movie theatres etc. There was also a note inside 'ransom style' that say 'dare you to spend this' (which we spent many hours cutting letters out of magazines to make!) After it was out there a few weeks we went on the air with a 'Scream phone' voice on air saying 'I KNOW YOU FOUND MY MONEY.' Then we'd read off specific serial #s to win the big money, so if you kept the money and didn't spend it, you were rewarded. Some of them were turned into the police... All in all, it was fun and the scary voice was exciting.
Almost Related Topic
One of the things we train the Street Team about at Street School is what to do when they're out on the streets and someone comes up and says "I'm putting on (event) and was wondering who I would talk to at the station about getting some publicity." ST'ers should always have a business card from the Sales Manager when they're out.
What about your website? I spent a good chunk 'o the morning with the Lovely & Talented Jill Davidson(r) from Clifton Radio, helping her search for stuff on radio station websites. Fully HALF the sites we visited did not have a contact phone number for the radio station, ANYWHERE on the website. How f**king stupid is that? You should have the Sales # listed, at the very very least.
