A Spring Break Hook
A station-to-remain-nameless is about to do their own version of Wired's Sooperbowl Survivor and send an RV of listeners south to the sunny beaches of Florida...kicking out people along the way and sticking them on a Greyhound home. Option #2 is to find four people who are virgins and send them to Spring Break. The theory being that if you can't get laid there, then come home and check into a convent or seminary.
March Ticket Mayhem
They're did this at Wild 104 in Binghamton where it was all about tickets. Movies. Ski passes. $50 blocks of lottery tickets. AHL hockey tickets. Minor league baseball tickets. Concert tickets. Tickets, of any kind, are terrific prizes. The more the merrier.
It Puts The Lotion On It's Skin Or Else It Gets The Hose Again
Do you have any idea how long I've waited to use that as a header? Lots and lots of parades for St. Patty's Day. And in many of the markets where you're reading this, it's cold. Like in Rochester, New York where last year, the promo staff marched the route, handing out Kleenex to parents who had little kids with runny noses. Sounds stupid but as Rachel Knight described it, you could not have given these people a better item at that moment. They were eternally grateful. Hand lotion and lip balm would be terrific also for the people shivering along the route.
Ring Your Listeners Necks
You know what's cheap and people love? Mardi Gras beads. I was at Wild in Tampa four summers ago and they were doing purple beads at a Prince concert. People loved them. WPXY in Rochester did green beads at that market's St. Patricks Day parade. Again, not expensive and people love them. They're also reprised the Green Thing contest. Bring in the biggest "green thing" and win tickets to Green Day. In '05 someone brought in a green bus.
