Phonal Interruptus
Power 96 in Miami has done better cash contests then, well, anyone, over the years. The biggest ever was Power Blast. They opened up the phones for 20 minutes and if you got through (ie: the DJ picked up) you won $100.
KDWB in Minny and The Wolf in Greensboro have done this with concert tickets when they had scads(r) available. The reaction both times was insane.
So...KAJA in San Antonio has hundreds of pairs of tickets to the sold out George Straight concert. They debuted Ticket Blast last month on a Friday at 3:42 pm. The term "the phones blew off the wall" actually might apply. From Travis Moon: Phones began ringing at 3pm and never stopped til the end of the 5pm hour. The front desk phone rang non-stop until it literally broke it. They had to get the phone company in to repair the line there
There was an alarm light on and everything. We do it again this Friday. The TWIST? I add FIVE minutes to the clock!
PPM
As witnessed by any station that has dipped their toes in the Baby Idol pool, getting people to post shots of their beloved children seems to be the muther (pun intentional) of all Hot Buttons. The fact that the acronym for Q-104/Cleveland's Proud Parent Moments was 'PPM' is simply a bonus.
Party Cam
Hot in Ottawa (the T was was eventually recovered, halleluiah!) has Party Girl whose sole purpose in life is to go to clubs and concerts and pretty much any place that serves alcohol and get her photo taken with listeners. Kiss in Charlotte has a similar concept and the result is hundreds and hundreds of constantly added-on-to photos from the nightlife of that market. http://kiss951.radio.com/category/photo-galleries/kiss-party-cam-powered-by-lazyday/
