The Summer Of Giggity
Why? Why not? One of the stations is doing the All Access summer with seemingly a gazillion tickets to everything that's happening in town. This will tie everything together and give some continuity to it. Like the 10,000 tickets bit. If you do the Access thing, make sure that everyone gets a station laminate to clip on their key fob or backpack.
The 2010 Version Of "One Night In Bangkok"
Las Vegas is such a terrific destination that to waste it with "Qualify and listen for the Nutz to call your name" is just...depressing. Kiss in Seattle had listeners "play blackjack against Eric The Angry Dealer", Kiss in Charlotte had listeners count cards, a station to remain nameless is about to have listeners guess the design of tat that the sweet innocent intern got when she was there (and trashed) for Spring Break. You could also do the New Zealand promotion, "Joker", and
Wired 96.3 in Saskatoon is doing "17 Hours In Las Vegas". You join Ryder and Brandi for the flight down, you get some gambling money, you drink, shop, drink, eat, drink and gamble and fly home. No hotel. That's the hook. You win each morning by guessing who will win a bet between the two hosts. Different kind of bet each day.
Lame Web Contesting
Regular readers (and thanks to the three of you) of this often-twice-daily tripe have seen some great examples of radio station web contests that have been outstanding.
- The game of Clue at Fly in Albany
- Finding the missing link for Jo Bros at B-103.9 in Ft. Myers. (stats attached)
- The stop light game at KSD in St.Louis.
And then of course, there are things like the Hormel chili contest where you needed to register on-line, find a coupon...no entries in EIGHT markets.
There was a Jimmy John's contest in '09. Click on their logo and enter. No one did. (And then you have to deal with po'ed clients)
One of the stations had a last minute promotion dropped in their lap. They were SLAMMED and with no weekend airstaff, they stuck it on the website.
I'm going to guess-timate a perceived value of $5000. Airfare to and hotel in one of the premiere travel destinations on the planet. Attendance at a private soundcheck by a huge artist AND a buttload of swag from the guy.
They KISSed it. Stuck it on the web and had VIP's enter. 60 entries. That's not good. Even by the loosest definitions of "not good". Go to the Travel Channel. Go to American Airlines. Go to 100 other non-Radio websites. They get "show biz" better then we do. Which is "not good".
