Pro & Conclave
This year is the Conclave's 35th and arguably has the best lineup//agenda yet. If you don't believe me, go to www.theconclave.com
Dysfunctional Family Four Packs
About to be done at a station: the parents win two tickets and the children get a really violent DVD and Lunchables to eat while they're home alone, waiting for mom and dad to get back.
Weekend's are "vibe contesting". Don't ever forget it.
An Actual Radio Beach House
KLUC in Las Vegas and several other stations have done faux beach houses as their weekend broadcast location. Produced in-large-part ahead of time. Didn't matter. They still sounded more tapped-in to the lifestyle then the station across the street doing the remotes.
Power in Miami, The Beat in Austin and Xtreme in Honolulu have all undertaken the arduous task of actually hosting a beach house. It's work. Not going to lie. A station-to-remain-nameless is bringing back the bit starting in a couple weeks. Every Friday will be live from one, with hundreds of invited (winners) listeners joining them.
People always ask me what the coolest promotion I've ever seen in 28 years was; hands down the beach house in Hawaii.
Orange Crush
Several of the stations have gotten requests from the soft drink.
I was driving past miles and miles of sweating highway construction workers yesterday when I harkened (erudite word) back to some bits that Kansas City, Ottawa and some of the other stations have done during the summer.
Popsicle Drops. Just loading the vehicle up and going out to seasonal outdoor workers on hot summer days and giving them stuff to cool down. How do you make a fan when it's 100 degrees? Give alandscaper a cold soda or frozen icecream bar.
So what if you did "Recrushitate" and on hot days, load up coolers with ice down Orange Crush and go hit road workers, construction crews, and other outdoor workers with the stuff. Don't over-think street prizing during the summer. I was at the Clifton station in Jacksonville for the 4th of July and we just rolled the boardwalk, handing out soda. We were mobbed. And it was really just an excuse to shake hands.
