There Will Be NO Math Questions
Wild in Tampa once did a Mandatory Drug Test Weekend. Call in, get tested on your knowledge of drugs, and win. One of those weekends where the prize is secondary to the vibe.
Jammin' in New London had ten pairs of SATC 2 tickets drop in their laps. So, on a Friday morning they're acknowledging that date in 1964 when sex ed was formally introduced into Connecticut schools. Gym teacher Cloris Balbricker was the first person to teach one of these classes and she'll be in tomorrow morning to grill listeners on things like "refractory periods" and "nocturnal emissions" for the tickets to the movie.
Swag That Will Make You Wet
It's entirely possible to overthink things. The first 4th of July that I had this job I was in Jacksonville at the appropriately named Hot 101.5. We loaded the coolers with soft drinks and drove the beach and handed it out. You'd have thought we were giving out passes to an ark during a heavy rain. We were mobbed.
DO...you have your hookup? K-Rock in Kingston just got 10,000 units of bottled water for the street team. They're now officially set. And because "givens" are no longer "givens", these need to be iced down. Just handing out warm soda and water will not work. In fact, you'll look like idiots.
And a congratulatory note to K-Rock where they just did their first party cruise of the summer. 300 listeners with beer and a band on a stern-wheeler as they Gilligan'ed their way through the 1000 Islands.
High School Cheerleaders
There. I said it. Radio needs to do everything it can to keep the kids engaged, if even just by training them to visit our websites.
Cheerleader carwashes are back. I saw my first in Rhode Island in a bank parking lot a couple weekends back. Train your drivers that if they see these things...pull in. Get washed. Reimburse them later. It's an opportunity to make some fans and shake some hands. Conversely, you should also solicit and post these events in a special section on the website. Could/should be sponsorable.
