Free Marital Tip #274
When you are at the Saturday afternoon grad party for the hot neighbor girl, never ever lean over to your wife and say "Cassie's got the body that rocks the party." Especially when it is also your wife's birthday.
Lest We Forget
One of the mantras at Street School is that for a LOT of people, it is still a big deal to meet a DJ. We're in the Impression Business. Whoever has the most best first impressions, wins. And the airstaff by-and-large has totally forgotten that.
So I'm at a summer camp family day thing on Sunday. I was making small talk with a counselor named Ariel. She's from London. I mention that I work with Capital FM which is one of the GCap stations in the Clifton Radio/CPR Worldwide Love Network. She literally levitates out of her seat. She'd been working at the Hilton at Heathrow and Johnny Vaughhan, the breakfast presenter at Capital, was at the hotel for some event and according to her, was the nicest funniest person she'd ever met, gush gush gush...8000 miles and 2 years later, this is still a seminal moment in her life. He probably sat and chatted with her for a couple minutes. And she will NEVER forget.
And Because It Is Rock Science
I haven't mentioned Dave Ryan for a minute. He reminds us that Marketing is all about lifestyle, and that Summer in Minneapolis is not a club gig or a car dealer remote: We did something today that no iPod, satellite radio or syndicated show could do. We got on a friend's big 28 foot boat, loaded it up with cold Pepsi, Red Bull, t-shirts, etc. and headed out to the biggest party spot on the biggest lake in town. All we did was announce on a bullhorn, "Hey, it's KDWB and if you want free stuff, come over to our boat and we'll get it for you!" Such a GREAT reaction! We had a throng of people gathered around us to get free stuff. It didn't hurt that we took 2 beautiful interns in swimwear along. The station got a call from the lifeguards at one of the local swimming beaches so we cruised over there, swam ashore with a cooler full of Pepsi and Red Bull and once again, it was a hit. We had people wave, yell, honk their horns, etc. It felt like the exact kind of thing radio used to do so well before we all got lazy and did "Caller Number 10 at the Touchtones."
