Bark Week
Kudos to whoever is the Marketing Director at the Discovery Channel because you couldn't seemingly go on-line or flip on TV without some mention of their Shark Week feature.
Dogs are an acknowledged Hot Button. Cool. Then honor the Dog Days Of Summer with Bark Week.
I'd do something different and dog related each morning:
- Pet Psychic. If you haven't done this, you haven't lived
- Puppy Gaga. Trick out your dog and make him/her/it into a canine mess
- iBone. Stick an iPhone on your dog, stream it to youstream and you can see what your dog does while you're on the air. (David Letterman did this early in his show)
- Yappy Hour. Do a dog wash at a coffee place (parking lot) during the morning show to raise money for the Humane Society.
- Love At First Bite. Marry two dogs.

Mondo congrats to WDVD in Detroit where they just wrapped Operation Backpack, their annual school supply drive.
Getting on the air and begging for donations is always very successful. But what if there was a payoff or incentive for donating? We're in the 90 day window for Halloween. If you have a "house" or field or event confirmed, you could get some pre-promotion for it and reward people who donate supplies with tickets.
