Putting The "Un" In Unofficial
A great banner tow is a thing of Art. BOB-FM in Fargo is arguably one of the more irreverent radio stations out there. As opposed to the branded "irreverent" stations that are researched and focus grouped into sterile pieces of crap that sound the same in every market. They launched with maybe the best TV spot ever. Ask and I'll send it.
We Fest is a Country music concert in northern Minnesota. I think they get about 100,000 people for three days of music and camping. BOB-FM has always been blocked by a competitor for the Fargo/Moorhead "official station" status. Which is probably good. Because it makes them work harder. They Rambo this every year. It's a bloodbath. And there's always a banner tow. The first one said "How Do You Land This Thing?...BOB-FM". The next day's banner said "Follow Me To Free Beer...BOB95 FM"
Don't Do This
Now in Indianapolis is across the street from one of those iHits Cumulus stations. Their Bieber pre-show party? With free tickets? Was at a 21+ bar.
Or This
Being a Promotion Director means having to say no. At some point or another, you have to say no to just about everyone. Clearly they did not at a station I heard this weekend where they were giving away "Chevy Camaro Commercial Merchandise Prize Packs when you hear the sounder."
The Monty Hall Theory Of Ratings Contests
Gameshows were huge in the '70s. And they're back in primetime. KUBE had luck with "Let's Make A Deal" in Seattle. KRST in Albuquerque had a GREAT run (and made $$$) off Concentration. Eddie Haskell explains:
12 prizes, 24 squares.
Caller X gets to match and win with KRST Concentration.
Caller picks a square... you play the audio for that square... "His and hers massages from Happy Endings"... pick another square... "a video a month from the Big Eye". They match, they win that prize.
VIP CHEAT - a visual version of the board online, behind the VIP login. Start with numbers 1-24. As prizes are matched, replace the number with a graphic of that prize.
24 squares 3 times a day will get you about 2 weeks.
And A Never-Been-Done Back To School Package
School Supply Drives are wrapping up. Remotes at malls. Gearing up for Friday night football. No one has ever taken the "prom package" idea of hair, nails and Norplant, and applied it to BTS.
A bad senior pic is forever. The idea would be hair, (makeup for the women), teeth whitening, maybe a photography studio, clothes...and bundle it all together.
