One of the stations has a $1000 in giftcards for a mall. Obviously, we're in Show Business, we are the Masters Of Semantics. We call it Christmas Cash. We call it a Shopping Spree. We call it a Holiday Bail Out. But I digress.

As exciting as it would be to qualify people and then have The Morning Nutz(tm) draw a winner, what if you got your ten qualifiers through pricing games or some other kind of morning feature and then have them join you at the mall where they will be presented with ten mall Santas. They each step up and pull on a beard. The one that is real, attached follically and doesn't come off, wins the prize for the listener.

Just went into town. Girl at the gas station was in costume. Bank had cobwebs and spiders on the counter. Lobby at the bank all decorated. And yet, an amazing number of stupid people in Radio operate in a parallel universe. To listen to them this morning, it could have been May 5th. Or September 17th. Just another day.

So sad...

Scary Stories From Down The Hall

Here are a few "bad sales things" stories. To fit with today's Scary Vibe:

"Hands down, the worst this year "Baking for Anita Baker"...a sales rep thought it would be a great idea (usually how all these kinds of stories start) if listeners competed in a baking contest for a chance to win tickets to the show. Thankfully we dodged that one which was nearly as bad as (the same sales reps 'other great idea') to do meat trivia for 8 weeks on the morning show to win a $20 gift cert. Those were the 'two scariest stories' on my end, luckily neither panned out" Submitter requests anonymity

"The first remote I ever had was at a Funeral Home. The sales guy helped me set up and handed me a match book that he said had all the info I needed and bolted. They were new to the area and the big pitch was they would loan you the chairs they used at services to people for their weddings and such, and did I mention the funeral home was closed the day of the broadcast? Because of the Super bowl I guess. To top it all off, I never got paid for the gig. Talk about dead beats! The second most memorable involved a Cat Show. AE came to us saying this was a huge international gig coming to town and could we come up with a different creative morning show contest for each of the 8 days leading up to the event. We did, and awarded pairs of tickets to the extravaganza. As it turned out it didn't cost anything to get in. We gave away tickets to a FREE cat show." More requested anonymity.
