The Twelve Ho's Of Christmas
Radio has become the master of taking great prizes and dumbing them down to inconsequential sounding throwaway items.
"Giftcards". As a term and in most usage, sux.
One of the Promotion Directors just sent me their weekend-after-Thanksgiving plans. They're packed. Three different LARGE things going on, which is good. And on top of that, a mall wants them to give away $1000 in giftcards. Said-Promo Person knows that in that context, it's a "6" at best. Getting on the air and saying "You can win $1000 in cash for shopping"? That's a "10".
White Castle has giftcards. Tires Plus has giftcards. Petco has giftcards.
If you have some clients who want to give you stuff to contest with in December, one of the stations is about to be the first to try The Ten Secret Santas. Ten movie Santa's each contributing a "ho" to a quick collage. ID the ten in order and win. He was thinking The Twelve Ho's Of Christmas but was afraid that angry torchbearing villagers would ransack and set fire to the station. (Conservative market)
For A Club That Targets Colleges
Obviously, beer pong is the activity du jour for college students. If you acknowledge it with a line in your spot or a game at the club, you WILL get a response.
One of the stations has a club that has a college crowd. Said-station can't host a beer pong contest for legal reasons. But they CAN have everyone who goes to the club in the month of November register for a ball-related contest that will send one person to the World Championships in Las Vegas. Kara-jokey
Not one but two comedy tour promo requests came down yesterday. For tickets, "Kara-jokey" would have the DJ start a joke but leave off the punch line. First person to complete the joke with the intended line, wins.
