Thanksgiving Googlizing
I've given up trying to badger people into tweaking their websites for holidays. Either you want to have fun and be topical, or you don't or can't.
With that said: last year a few stations used turkey drumsticks as cursors, a couple of stations stuck Pilgrim-ish clothing on the inevitable artists on their masthead, turkeys bouncing or flying around the screen is a nice touch and just a simple backwards ticking clock to the time the doors at the mall open, works too.
The Wheel Of Macy's Cliches
I listened to a station in Denver three years ago where, on the day before Thanksgiving, there was literally no mention that millions of people were piling into cars, flooding the airports, emptying the grocery stores...it was marginally surreal. They were in their own very weird, cut off from the rest of the planet, zone.
Here's something to get you thinking Bit Wise: Wheel Of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Cliches. You take ten callers and for each of them you spin the wheel. They each are assigned a word.
- Sparkling
- Spectacular
- Warmth
- Joyous
- Magical
- Festive
- Wonderful
- Basking
- High-Stepping
- Crazy/Wacky/Zany/Loveable (usually in reference to a character depicted as a balloon)
You have an intern watch the show and every time the trio from The Today Show use one of the terms, make a notation. Person whose cliche gets the most votes, wins a tree, or a primo spot at your market's holiday parade, or some twinkle lights, or...the ultimate Christmas cliche: a fruitcake and a Chia Pet.
