The Meet Ball
There has never been a sitcom that hasn't, at some point, mocked a singles night. As evidenced by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0ehhCXBfSg "Singles" as a term has a serious stank to it. No one wants to be "one of them". So call it what it is, like they did at Wired in Philly: The Big Hook Up. Though, "Meet Ball" might be my new favorite, courtesy of a station that must remain nameless for now.
Ugly Bridesmaid Dresses
One of the Clifton stations has a $2700 wedding dress to giveaway for Valentines. There are any number of things you could do. What if you got ten listeners who are engaged to pose in the ugliest bridesmaid dress that is gathering dust in their closet? Post the pics. The audience votes for whoever has suffered the most indignity in the past and deserves to FINALLY walk down the aisle, and FINALLY looking good.
BTW: www.uglydress.com is a great collection of BAD bridesmaid and prom dresses.
Caged Heat
When Dom Theodore was in Detroit he did "Felontine" which somehow involved romantic shout outs people in jail to their significant-and-free-others. KZIA did the reverse of that sort-of and had the stunt dude bullhorning Hallmark verses from the sidewalk outside the wire to incarcerated men.
One of the morning guys is going to get his Valentine Love via www.meet-an-inmate.com this year. Mmmm...conjugal visits.
"Felon At The Table" is a holiday bit that awards a prize to the listener who can document (prove) they hosted the biggest felon at Thanksgiving.
Now...we just tweak that for Valentines and find the listener who has the ex serving the most time. From a former morning cohost who must remain nameless, but a few savvy people will know who she is:
Here's one for ya... I was browsing online last and decided to Google my first serious boyfriend - the guy that took my virginity. He used to call me every once in a while and the last time I talked to him was 2005. So I do a search and his name comes up on www.writeaprisoner.com. Shocked to see this, I click, and sure enough, there is his photo and a profile. According to the site, he has been locked up since 2006 and is serving 12-15 years for sexual assualt and unlawful restraint. The question is, do I write to him or not?
