"I Have This Club..."
One of the morning hosts has had a Wednesday club event that she's been doing since the Bush presidency and that needs to be blown up and reinvented. The solution? Thong Pong.
Like beer pong but with a logo'ed thong stretched between two rods, planted about ten inches apart in a solid base. Basically you slingshot the ball at cups.
The Beauty, The Majesty, Of A Fake Backstage Broadcast
The first step in your recovery is to admit that most radio station broadcasts from concerts are about as exciting as listening to a remote from a car dealer.
B-96 in Chicago had Lady Gaga last month. With every other station in Illinois and northern Indiana playing by the rules and not starting their horrible broadcast from the United Center until 3 pm, B sent Nikki into the area with a cell phone and she painted a picture of roadies and catering and soundchecks and costuming. She took the listeners where they wanted to be: backstage. Amazing. And totally staged.
School Walk Outs
In early March every highschool student in the state of Idaho walked out in support of teachers who are on the budget cutting block. Huge news story. Monstrous news story. And missed by every station in Boise except for Peak's 103.3 Kiss-FM. They went live at one of the schools. and created a Facebook page for the kids that also features a video they shot at one of the protests. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Idaho-Students-Unite/192665810765129
It's entirely possible that schools in your market/state could walk out. And if you miss it, you're going to look like idiots.
There's a fine lie between "supporting" and "glomming on to". Kiss pulled it off. Be there. Give the kids a forum to talk. Don't get all political. Radio stations that try to appear smarter then they are, never come off well.
